WR 7U All Stars take 4th Place in First 8U Tournament!

What an amazing weekend of Baseball!

The first tournament for West Raleigh's 7U's All Star team was full of amazing plays, great hits and FUN!

As the 7U's headed to the field Saturday early evening with the humid 90+ degree sun beating down, facing back to back games, they were unfazed and ready to play. They took an early lead with great base running by "Sticks" and a solid at Bat by Zach helped us take a 3-2 lead in the 2nd. With the help of an exciting running catch by #2 Garrett at first to make the second out the inning the 7U's were able to hold the Caswell Combat in the second and keep their 3-2 lead.

In the 3rd Blake hit a Bomb to Center field to score another run and helped cushion our lead by 2. The
Combat fought back in the bottom of the 3rd and tied the game 4-4. But that is where the Combats scoring ends. The West Raleigh 7U's held them for the last 3 innings scoreless with help by a great catch by #9 Payton to end the fourth. After Zach hit a triple #6 Matthew hit him in and the 7U's took a 5-4 lead in the game.

Great defensive plays were made by #17 Ryan who was key at pitcher and #2 Garrett who as catcher snagged the bunt and threw the runner out at first and #28 Brian who had a sweet catch at 1st to end the 5th. With terrific hitting in the last inning by #12 Sean, #10 David the 7U's hit in 8 more runs. It was a complete team effort for the 7U's and their first win EVER in the Top Gun Tournament!

The Second games score of 15-5 (Carolina Raiders) for the 7U's does not show how well they played. Solid hitting and defensive plays were made by all the boys. #6 Matthew made two great catches in the 3rd which were essential in holding the Carolina Raiders scoreless in that inning. Other defensive plays were great second base work by #32 Grayson,
a catch by #7 Jacob in the outfield.

With the 7U's win of Game 1, they moved to the Gold Bracket and were pumped to play the West Raleigh 8U's team early Sunday morning.

It was a slow start for the 7U's and their bats just simply wouldn't heat up against the 8U team. The 8U's came to play and came to win. Although our boys tried to kept their heads in the game and never gave up the 8U's bats were hot and their defensive play was even hotter. Although not as hot as #9 Payton's unassisted double play to end the fourth inning. The first double play of the 7U's season. Even after the 20-0 loss to their "Big Brothers" on the 8U team the boys didn't take it to heart and stayed to cheer on the 8U's as they continued to play well and clinch the championship game against the Carolina Raiders 13-3.

The 7U's second game of the day was against the Garner Express. An 8U team who after this game were moving up to the 9U kid pitch tournaments. The West Raleigh team was still excited from the 8U's win, started the game by taking a quick 1-0 lead that they held until the 3rd inning, in which the 7U's tacked on 3 more runs to take a 4-0 going into the end of the 3rd. The Garner Express battled back and took the lead from us at the end of the 3rd by scoring 5 runs. Our defense still held strong and kept the Express to 5 runs. Although our boys had some great hits, they weren't able to regain the lead from the Express and the Garner team clinched the 3rd place spot in the tournament. The West Raleigh 7U team played tremendous defense against Garner and even the Garner coaches and tournament umps couldn't get over how well our 7U team did today.

It was a great weekend full of great baseball and fun.

Roll Blue!!!!
