Kicking off The Lee Woodard Rookie Tournament

Tonight the West Raleigh 7U's and the Wilson County 7U's started off the Lee Woodard Rookie Tournament, with a pitching machine that was throwing high heat.

The Wilson County 7U Pirates were a worthy opponent and the first 7U team that the WR 7U's have played this season. Both teams started the 1st inning off with some great hits. The final score does not show the Pirates true talent and what a great ball team they are.

The first inning started off with some strong at bats for the Blue team. #9 Green hit a single by the short stop to start us off. #12 Sean Murphy laid down yet another perfect bunt to move Green over to second and take first base. Then Blake's single up the 3rd base side moved the runners over, bases loaded 2 outs #2 Garrett Moffett takes to the plate and hits a single between 1st and 2nd to score #9 Payton and our first and only run of the inning.

The first inning was the only inning where the West Raleigh 7U's were able to display their defensive skills. Great hustling by #2 Garrett at first who along with #17 Ryan at pitcher and #12 Sean at catcher were busy running down many foul balls in attempt to make the foul ball catch. #14 Zach and #98 Blake ran down a hard hit ball to the fence to hold the batter at 2nd on a ball that without their great speed would have scored a run. #7 Jacob had a quick glove that held one of the Pirates runners to first on a hit to Right Center. The inning was finished off when a diving stop by #9 Payton Green who then hustled to 2nd for the forced out to end the inning.

The WR 7U's bats were now warmed up. Score tied 1-1. Top of the 2nd.

#10 David started off the 2nd inning hitting a double, followed by #32 "G Money" Grayson's solid single between 1st and 2nd moving David over to third. #7 Jacob hit one up the middle and is the 1st 7U player to have hit the pitching machine (he takes his base and moves "G" over to 2nd). #17 Ryan hits a fly ball over the 3rd Basemen's head to score David.

TOP OF THE ORDER....

The big bat of #9 Payton hits a TRIPLE scoring #32, #7 and #17. #14 Zach smacked a ball out to Center Field scoring #9 Green. #98 McCain's single moves #14 to 3rd (and Blake takes 2nd base when the Pirates try to throw Zach out at 3rd). #28 Rubin hits a single to Right Field to score #14 and #98. Garrett #2 hits a fly ball to the hole over the 2nd Base moving Rubin over. #11 Sticks DiMeo's big single to Right Field scores #28 and moves Garrett over to 3rd. Matt's pop up to shallow Right Field scores #28 Brian.

WR 7U Blue enter the bottom of the 2nd up 10-1 and then enter the top of the 3rd 10-1.

Top of the 3rd and the boys are back...up to bat.

#7 Jacob started off the hitting with a single up the 3rd base line. #9 Payton hits a single over the short stops head 1st and 2nd, one out. #12 Sean's hits a single, bases loaded. Big Bad Zach Hurand hits a hard line drive to a hole in Center field to score #17 and #9. Blakes double to Right Field scores Sean and Zach. Rubin's single scores #98 Blake. #2 Garrett hits a single up the middle, runners move over, #6 Matt hits a single between 2nd and 3rd, bases loaded. The last hit of the night for West Raleigh was by #10 David who's fly ball to a hole in Left Center scores #28 Rubin.

16-1 bottom of the 3rd.

The Wilson 7U Pirates bats started to heat up, they scored a run and with bases load and outs left on the board the Ump due to time calls the game.

West Raleigh wins 16-2. The 7U's came hard and heavy with their bats tonight with a pitching machine that was possibly throwing faster then normal. Our boys adjusted quickly to the machine and all the boys hustled on the field and played a great game.
