Sunday evening the 7U's enter the field wearing their Blues and the 8U's grab their gloves and enter the field wearing their whites. It is another West Raleigh showdown.
The 7U's were the first to bat and no matter where we hit it, the 8U's were there ready to field it. #9 Payton had a great shot towards third but Sam for the 8U team backhanded it for the catch. #12 Sean has our first hit of the game as he hits one up the 3rd base side for a single. But that would be our only hit of the inning.
Our Defense came out strong in the bottom of the 1st, #11 Sticks fielded a ground ball and throws to #6 at 2nd for the forced out. #9 Payton catches a fly ball at shortstop for out #2. Payton also fielded a hard hit grounder to shortstop and made the throw to #11 Sticks at 3rd for out #3. When all was said and done the 8U's scored two runs in the first.
2nd inning the 7U's get a single from #98, but the 8U's follow quickly with a double play and we are all to quickly entering the bottom of the 2nd. Our 7U team was baseball ready for what the 8U's had to offer and they went 3 up 3 down, with 2 outstanding plays by #9 Payton at Shortstop and #14 Zach in Left Field. Zach's catch in Left Center was out #1, Green had back to back plays for outs 2 and 3. The 1st out was an outstanding catch of a hard hit line drive, and the second out was when he fielded a hard hit ground ball and made the throw to #2 Garrett for out #3.
But the 8U's still hold us scoreless in the 3rd. Their Defense was impermeable and their offense was just getting started. The 8U's were on a roll. Hitting balls to every hole they could find (Tiger would have been jealous). Our defensive plays were by #9 Payton who makes a great catch at shortstop and #6 Matt who catches one for out #3.
Going into the 4th inning we need to score at least 3 runs to keep the game alive. #9 Payton hit a bomb up the 3rd base side for a triple. As he waits on 3rd, feet ready to fly #14 Zach swings with all his might and even though he hits a hard fly ball to right field the 8U outfielder was able to get under it, make the catch and the speedy throw to home and as Payton slides into home, the Catcher tags him out.
The West Raleigh 8U's win 0-12. This game was full of great hits and impressive defensive plays. It was great to see how far our 7U team has come in only 2 weeks since their first game against their 8U brothers.
The West Raleigh 8U team continued on to beat North Wake 13-2 and takes 1st place in this tournament. Congratulations to West Raleigh 8U! (and we will see you at Districts!)
Roll Blue!!!
