Southern Pitt @ West Raleigh 9-2
The 7U's entered the field as the home team Saturday morning, 90 degree heat beating down yet playing in a town with the word "Winter" in its name. With a start like that, you knew it was going to be an interesting day.
The 7U's were not intimidated by their 8 year old first game rivals from Southern Pitt. Although they could tell that they were a solid team our boys held them to zero runs in the first inning. After great at bats by Grayson and Blake we took a 1-0 lead at the end of one.
The 2nd and 3rd inning showed great defensive plays by Zach, Grayson and Rubin which helped us enter the 4th inning tied at 1.
But Southern Pitt wasn't quite ready to give up, after a great team effort by the 7U's the strong bats of Southern Pitt and their quick defense helped them beat the Blue team 9-2 in the top of the 6th.
West Raleigh @ Winterville 3-10
The 7U's second game was against the Hometown Winterville 8U All Star team.
We came out strong in the first with some very strong at bats from our first 7 hitters taking a quick 3-0 lead, but the Winterville 8U's battled right back at the bottom of the first and tied it up. Both teams played great defense in the 2nd and the score remained tied at 3-3.
The Winterville defense was fast and seem to ready for anything we hit at them, and when they came in strong with their offense in the 3rd and 4th innings the game ended after the top of the 5th 10-3.
Although the 7U's lost their two games on Saturday, it was a great day of fun and baseball. The boys learned a lot about the game and teamwork. The fun continued off the field until the sun started to set at the hotel pool, where our boys "practiced" their skills in the water.
More fun to follow on Sunday!
