Districts Game 2

West Raleigh 7U's @ South Granville 2-12

The 7U's grab their bats and line up to start the night on offense against South Granville. The same South Granville team from last weekends tournament in Black Creek. Our boys seemed ready.


#9 Green starts us off with a single over the Short Stops head in shallow center and #14 Zach hits one over the 3rd basemen for a single (1st & 2nd 1 out). But South Granville's quick hands and feet net them a double play and we are quickly headed to the bottom of the 1st, and our defense quickly answers back.
#98 Blake charges a bunt hit up the 3rd base line and almost gets the runner at first with a bullet throw to #2. #28 Brian Rubin rushes back to deep Right Center and makes a stellar catch for out #1. Sean at catcher popped off his mask and attempted a diving catch for a foul pop up far behind home plate. The final out of the inning was a solid catch by #6 Matt in Left Field.

Top of the second 0-1, #2 steps to the plate and hits a LASER to Center Field for a single, but SG makes quick work of our next three batters and gets our runners out on fielders choice forced outs at 2nd. Defense here we come. The first out of the bottom of the 2nd was courtesy of #32 Grayson "G-Money" Nichols running up on a soft grounder and making the throw to Garrett at 1st. Then Blake charges up on a bunt hit up the 3rd baseline, but this batter could not out run the rocket throw of Blake to Garret at 1st (out #2!). The 3rd out was a catch by our Right Center Fielder Brian, who grabbed the ball right before it hit the ground. 2 innings down WR 0-SG 2.

Third inning hits started with #7 Jacob who hit a line drive over the Shortstops for a single. Sean steps to the plate (#9 on 1st) and hits one towards 3rd. Payton's (#9) quick legs gets him to 2nd safely. 1st and 2nd - 1 out, Zach Hurrand hits a fly ball to Left Field and scores #9, we head into the bottom of the 3rd, 1-2. But the bottom of the 3rd inning the South Granville bats start to heat up. Zach (#14) makes a nice catch in Center Field for out #1. #6 Matt makes the 2nd out by tagging the runner who was attempting to take 2nd base on a wild throw (base denied). Brian catches a pop up in front of 1st base for out #3...1-4 going into the top of the fourth.

#2 Garretts BIG BAT saunters up to the plate and WHAM! Double to Center Field. #11 "Sticks" DiMeo hit a ground ball up the middle past 2nd base to score #2 from 2nd. Matt keeps the hitting alive by hitting one over the 3rd basemen's for a single, but that is where the hitting for the WR 7U's end (and the shelling for South Granville begin).

South Granville's bats are alive and they are peppering the field in all the right places. Eight runs score and the game ends in the 4th inning 2-12.

Our boys take the field tomorrow at 2:45pm to take on their next opponent (which will be determined tomorrow morning).
